Journal ranking alternatives to the journal impact factor

February 8th, 2008 by Librarian

There are two new journal ranking tools freely available on the internet.

SCImago Journal & Country Rank — Data from Scopus (13,200 journals)

Eigenfactor — Data from Thomson (8,000 journals)

The SJR indicator (from SCImago Journal & Country Rank) and the Eigenfactor take the ISI Impact Factor one step further. They incorporated a PageRank algorithm from Google to weight the citing journals. The ISI Impact Factor counts the number of cites to papers in a journal but does not distinguish if the citing paper is published in a prestigious journal or a not so highly ranked journal. The SJR indicator and the Eigenfactor take into account the ranking of the citing journal.

Dentistry Library Re-Opens

December 3rd, 2007 by Librarian

The Dentistry Library has re-opened. The electrical upgrade took slightly longer than expected - 2 weeks instead of 1 week. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Students, if you have a problem with your borrowing record due to difficulties in returning items, please either drop in and speak with Dentistry Library staff or email us on deni@library.uq.edu.au. If all is well, have a great holiday break and we will see you refreshed in the new year. Staff, ADA(Qld) members and Community borrowers, if we do not see you during December, Merry Christmas from Dentistry Library staff.

Dentistry Library Closes for 1 week

    August 29th, 2007 by Librarian

The Dentistry Library will be closed during the second semester break. This is because of major electrical work being undertaken during the period. The Library will be closed from Saturday 22nd September and will re-open Monday 1st October. Library staff will be re-located to other branches during this period. All books that fall due for return during the closed period, Saturday 22nd September to Saturday 29th September will be due on 1st October. If there are any changes and staff are able to open the Library on Friday 28th September, we will do so. This will mean the Library will also be open on Saturday 29th September. We will keep you informed, so Watch This Space!!!

    Endnote and Scrambled Text

    June 5th, 2007 by Librarian

Have you experienced text scrambling when using Endnote with MSWord? Your text in MSWord will scramble if you have the “Field Codes” feature enabled in your MSWord program. To re-set this feature: Open MS Word; Select the Tools menu; select Options at the bottom of the list; select the View tab and open the View screen; find the field codes feature and un-tick it; select OK at the bottom of the screen to confirm the change. Voila!
