Dentistry Library Re-Opens

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The Dentistry Library has re-opened. The electrical upgrade took slightly longer than expected - 2 weeks instead of 1 week. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Students, if you have a problem with your borrowing record due to difficulties in returning items, please either drop in and speak with Dentistry Library staff or email us on deni@library.uq.edu.au. If all is well, have a great holiday break and we will see you refreshed in the new year. Staff, ADA(Qld) members and Community borrowers, if we do not see you during December, Merry Christmas from Dentistry Library staff.

Can’t Bite, Can’t Fight!

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Did you know that during the Boer war the army lost nearly as many men to dental disease as were lost in battle. 2000 were evacuated because of dental problems and 5000 were found unfit for duty due to lack of dentures to replace lost teeth. “Disease, neglect, tough beef and hard biscuit play havoc on teeth”. In 1915 during the Gallipoli campaign, 600 men from a single infantry division had to be evacuated on account of their teeth. The desperate need for dental surgeons was not acted upon by the British Government until well into WWl.
