UQ St Lucia Trees Display

Trees.jpg UQ St Lucia campus has many diverse species of native and exotic trees. This display provides interesting facts and information about some of the types of trees you may see around campus. Trees compliment the built environment and create a sense of place.

Dr Barry Dunne is a specialist trainer from Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). He will be visiting UQ in late May to run a training session on the new web version of SciFinder. This session is designed for academics and researchers.

Details are:

When: Tuesday 26 May, 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Where: Level 5, Dorothy Hill Physical Sciences & Engineering Library

Afternoon tea will be provided. There is no need to register.

SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows you to explore the CAS databases that contain literature from many scientific disciplines including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more - it is a great and very relevant database.

If you already use SciFinder come to the session and get your search queries answered. Remember Scifinder Scholar will be phased out in the very near future! Only the web version will be available.

If you haven’t used Scifinder come and see what the new web version can do for you.

The Library catalogue now provides a link to the ‘Leading Practice Sustainable Development Program for the Mining Industry‘ handbooks. The twelve handbooks address the key issues affecting sustainable development in the mining and minerals industries.

British Library theses online

EThOS is the electronic theses online service provided by the British Library.

The aim of EThOS is:

* To offer a ’single point of access’ where researchers the world over can access ALL theses produced by UK Higher Education
* To support Higher Education Institutions through the transition from print to e-theses
* To help UK Higher Education Institutions expand available content by digitising paper theses
* To demonstrate the quality of UK research and help attract students and research investment into UK HE

The service is in its early days and a lot of theses are not digitised as yet, but you can search across 250,000+ theses for free and order full text where a direct download link is not provided.

UQ Student Exchange in 2009 Display

study abroad09A display about opportunities for UQ students to study abroad is available from May 1st -20th in the DHPSE Library Foyer, building no.50. UQ Student Exchange allows students to develop new skills and broaden professional relationships. Pamphlets and brochures are available providing students with more information about international universities and study opportunities.
