Safari Tech Books Online

Safari Tech Books is an online database of IT books designed to serve reference needs in the areas of information technology, desktop applications and business.

CrossFire Commander replaces DiscoveryGate

The Library has been recently notified that DiscoveryGate has been sold. This affects access to the Beilstein and Gmelin databases. Access to these databases in 2008 is by using the Crossfire Commander software. Web access may return in 2009.

There are currently configuration problems with accessing the Crossfire Commander software. The software will be available as a download from the Library website as soon as the problem is resolved.

If these changes to Beilstein/Gmelin causes immediate problems for you please let us know. Contact Phil Yorke-Barber or Jan Sullivan on 3346 3502.

Materials Engineering - Trial of Alloy Phase Diagrams Center

The Library has received a 15 day trial to the ASM Alloy Phase Diagram Center providing access to more than 28,000 binary and ternary phase diagrams and associated phase data for more than 6200 systems. Feedback in evaluating this resource is welcomed.

IMMAGE minerals database now available on the Web

The IMMAGE database is now available via the Web replacing the networked CD-ROM database. IMMAGE contains abstracts and citations of scientific and engineering literature for the international minerals industry and is produced by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). IMMAGE covers material published from 1979 to the present and contains over 100,000 records, with two to three thousand references being added each year.

IMMAGE coverage:Technical research, development and operating practices for metalliferous and industrial minerals are covered in the fields of:

  • Economic Geology
  • Mining Technology
  • Mineral Processing
  • Extractive Metallurgy

Feedback on using the new IMMAGE database is welcomed.
