Law Library Blackboard Competition - Win an iPod Touch!!

The Law Library BlackBoard site needs a new name. Can you help? If so, you could win an iPod Touch!

What is the Law Library Blackboard page?

The Law Library Blackboard page has been designed to help students studying law to improve their legal research skills. It includes 4 learning modules covering:
• Getting started in the law library,
• Secondary sources of information,
• Case law, and
• Legislation.

There are podcasts that you can download and some practice quiz questions for you to try.

Where is it?

To view the site login to BlackBoard and click on Law Library Information Skills under Semester 2.

How do I enter?

Submit your completed entry form in the box near the Law Library autoLOAN machines, or send an email with your proposed name for the Blackboard site and the reasons for your choice to law@library.uq.edu.au (remember to include Blackboard Competition in the subject line).

Who is eligible to enter?

Current students studying law at UQ and staff of the UQ Law school.

Online Learning in the Use of Software Applications for UQ Staff and Students

learningfast

LearningFast is an online help service which may assist in the use of software applications such as the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite. It includes a range of IT training courses, tutorials and online manuals. Access is free and available to UQ staff and students.

Online modules currently available include:
• Microsoft Office 2007 suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Project
• Operating Systems including Windows XP and Vista
• Web Design including Dreamweaver
• Adobe Photoshop
• An introduction to computers including terminology, software, networks and email

LearningFast can be accessed from the Ask I.T. website.

Orientation Week Tours

Locate services, discover information, and find your way through Law library! Every student who goes on a tour will receive a free $2 voucher for their smartcard.

During O-week, Library Tours in the law library will be on
Wednesday 22 July: 10 am or 2 pm
Thursday 23 July: 10 am or 2 pm
Friday 24 July: 10 am or 2 pm

Tours take 30-45 minutes and commence in the library foyer, near the loans desk.

Otherwise, let you mouse do the walking and take a virtual tour.

LAWS1111 Legislation Class

Acts

The last library class for LAWS1111 covering legislation is on next week - week beginning April 27th.

During this class we will provide an overview of the legislative process, will focus on how to find statutes, delegated legislation, bills and other Parliamentary materials from a variety of online and print sources and will cover finding cases which have judicially considered legislation.

Most importantly we will be discussing the online quiz worth 15% of your mark.

Library Tours

Encore Session for Finding Journal Articles

We’ll be running an encore session for the Finding Journals articles class this Thursday 3rd April at 12pm in eZone 1. The session will again take about 45min so if you would like any help with finding legal journal articles please feel free to come along. You don’t have to book.

Don’t forget about the Finding Cases class on Tuesday 1st April also at 12 in eZone 1.

Finding Journal Articles and Case Law Classes

The Law Library will be running a couple of lunch time legal research classes. The first one will be on finding journal articles and will be held straight after Easter in eZone 1 on Tuesday 25th at 12pm. The second will be on finding case law and will be held a week later on Tuesday 1st April also in eZone 1 at 12pm. The sessions will run for approximately 45min so if you’d like to brush up on some skills in finding journal articles or case law do come along.
