Online Learning in the Use of Software Applications for UQ Staff and Students

LearningFast is an online help service which may assist in the use of software applications such as the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite. It includes a range of IT training courses, tutorials and online manuals. Access is free and available to UQ staff and students.

Online modules currently available include:
• Microsoft Office 2007 suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Project
• Operating Systems including Windows XP and Vista
• Web Design including Dreamweaver
• Adobe Photoshop
• An introduction to computers including terminology, software, networks and email

LearningFast can be accessed from the Ask I.T. website.

Congratulations to the AAT Moot Team

Our congratulations go to the AAT Moot team of Sam Volling, Eliza Eaton and Liz Cullen who made it to the semi-finals of the national Administrative Law Mooting competition. They had already defeated three other teams from QUT, SCU and UWS in the areas of immigration, veteran’s affairs, social security and worker’s compensation before narrowly losing to UNSW in the semi-final.

Excellence Award

Established in 2006, The University of Queensland Library Excellence Award is presented annually to up to three UQ undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in the use of the Library to enhance their studies. The award was established to encourage the use of Library resources, enhance the development of library research techniques, and acknowledge the excellent work produced by UQ undergraduate students. This award acknowledges how Library resources support teaching and learning.
Who is eligible?
The award is open to any undergraduate, including honours, student of the University who is not a member of staff.
How to Apply?
Interested students should submit:
1. An application Cover Sheet
2. A reflective essay (500-700 words) demonstrating how Library resources were used to produce an excellent assessment outcome
3. A statement of support from their supervising lecturer
4. A copy of the piece of assessment that includes a bibliography showing the resources used.
Submissions should be sent to the University Librarian and Director of Learning Services, Level 6, Duhig Building, UQ St Lucia, by 1 October 2009.
Prize
A cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to each winner.
