Extended Law Library Opening Hours - Revision and Examination Period

The Law Library will open until 8pm on Friday 6th and 13th November and will be open on Saturday 7th and 14th November from 9am until 5pm.

Don’t forget, the Biological Sciences Library is open for study until midnight Monday-Friday and there is 247 study space available at the Dorothy Hill Physical Sciences and Engineering Library.

The Law Library BlackBoard site needs a new name. Can you help?

What is the Law Library Blackboard page?

The Law Library Blackboard page has been designed to help students studying law to improve their legal research skills. It includes 4 learning modules covering:
• Getting started in the law library,
• Secondary sources of information,
• Case law, and
• Legislation.

There are podcasts that you can download and some practice quiz questions for you to try.

Where is it?

To view the site login to BlackBoard and click on Law Library Information Skills under Semester 2.

How do I enter?

Submit your completed entry form in the box in the Law Library foyer, or send an email with your proposed name for the Blackboard site and the reasons for your choice to law@library.uq.edu.au (remember to include Blackboard Competition in the subject line).

Who is eligible to enter?

Current students studying law at UQ and staff of the UQ Law school.

Connecting with Law DVD

The library has on its new books shelves the Connecting with Law DVD which showcases all the winning and highly commended films in the Connecting With Law Short Film Competition Take 2 - 2009.
This includes UQ’s very own - Daniel Young, Sam Rogers, and Chris Perkins - whose film High Court High was selected as one of 5 commendable films in the competition.

Teaching & Learning Week @ UQ

Monday, 2 November - Friday, 6 November 2009 is Teaching & Learning Week at UQ.

The focus this year is on student engagement and high impact learning.

All week presentations and workshops will be delivered by a range of academics addressing these issues. The 2009 UQ Teaching & Learning Award Winners will be announced on Monday.

2010 Queensland Rhodes Scholar - Jessica Howley

Congratulations, Jessica Howley, for being named 2010 Queensland Rhodes Scholar!

Jessica is a former student of UQ’s T.C. Beirne School of Law, having graduated with First Class Honours in 2008. In the past year Jessica has undertaken an associateship with Justice Susan Kiefel in the High Court of Australia. She plans to study a Bachelor of Civil Law and Master of Philosophy at the University of Oxford.

Jessica is the eighth of the past nine Queensland Rhodes Scholars who have studied Law at UQ.

UQLS Valedictorian 2009 - Congratulations Mitch Riley

Congratulations to Mitch Riley for being selected by his peers as the University of Queensland Law Society (UQLS) Valedictorian for Semester 2, 2009.

What a wonderful achievement!

Mitch was selected as Valedictorian based on his involvement in and contribution to the UQ Law School, his extra-curricular involvement and service to the community and the fact that he is graduating in Semester 2, 2009 with 1st Class Honours (this means that at the time of nomination, Mitch had a LAWS GPA over 6.0).

Mitch will be speaking at the UQLS Law Dinner on Friday, 23 October 2009.

247 Study Space

The 247 Study Space is located on Level 1, Dorothy Hill Physical Sciences and Engineering Library. Entry after hours is via Cooper Road.

The following facilities are available:
* Study and research space, both group and individual
* 20 computers
* Wireless network access

UQ Jessup Moot Team Announced
