The Library is providing access to more e- titles in the Health Sciences subject area.

-  Search the catalogue for ScienceDirect ebooks or go to http://library.uq.edu.au/record=e1001748~S7

- Click on the link into Science Direct and choose the link to Browse Journals/Books by Subject.

- Open the + for Medicine and Dentistry and you can browse books further by subject.

- You can limit further to Full text available and All books to see those with full text subscriptions.

Examples of online books include Atlas of sleep, Stroke and Routine eye examination.

Dynamed Trial - Give us your Feedback

The UQ Library has had Dynamed, a point-of-care reference resource designed to provide clinicians with the best available evidence to support clinical decision-making, for a year now and we want your input to help us decide whether to continue with DynaMed in 2010. AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine)


Looking for Alternative Medicine information resources?

AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine) is a bibliographic database produced by the Health Care Information Service of the British Library. It contains citations and abstracts for physicians, therapists, medical researchers and clinicians, of information about alternative treatments to conventional medicine.

ONIX (Oncology Information Exchange)

ONIX (Oncology Information Exchange) is a free online cancer research portal launched by the UK National Cancer Research Institute. By enabling the user to search multiple cancer-related databases simultaneously it allows large volumes of data to be searched more easily and efficiently.

Applications are now open for the 2009 Library Excellence Award.

Established in 2006, The University of Queensland Library Excellence Award is presented annually to up to three UQ undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in the use of the Library to enhance their studies. The award was established to encourage the use of Library resources, enhance the development of library research techniques, and acknowledge the excellent work produced by UQ undergraduate students. This award acknowledges how Library resources support teaching and learning.

Who is eligible
The award is open to any undergraduate, including honours, student of the University who is not a member of staff.

How to Apply
Interested students should submit:
1. An application Cover Sheet (www.library.uq.edu.au/about/excellenceawardcover.pdf)
2. A reflective essay (500-700 words) demonstrating how Library resources were used to produce an excellent assessment outcome
3. A statement of support from their supervising lecturer (www.library.uq.edu.au/about/excellenceawardsupport.pdf)
4. A copy of the piece of assessment that includes a bibliography showing the resources used.
Submissions should be sent to the University Librarian and Director of Learning Services, Level 6, Duhig Building, UQ St Lucia, by 1 October 2009.
Prize
A cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to each winner.

Update to ETG - Endocrinology

The July 2009 electronic Therapeutic Guidelines (eTG complete) update includes the new release of Endocrinology 4. This has been completely revised, and important additions include: expanded text on management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes; an interpretation matrix for thyroid function test results; changes in specific pharmacotherapy for osteoporosis; new information on choice of hormonal contraception for women and on sex hormone replacement therapy, and expansion of the section on fluid and electrolyte abnormalities.

National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission Final Report

The Federal Government released the Final Report for the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission entitled: A healthier future for all Australians. The themes of the recommendations of this report are as follows:
