Publish, Not Perish

April 17th, 2008 by Jacky Cribb

Publish, not perish: the art & craft of publishing in scholarly journals.

The University of Colorado Libraries have designed an online research tutorial that focus on how to publish in academic journals.

It describes the world of academic publishing, how to to plan and write a paper, how to find the most likely journals to target, defines the “impact factor”, gives you the details of the actual publishing process, the world of Open Access, and how to fit writing papers into an already busy schedule.

This is a useful resource for researchers just beginning to publish and for those who want to update their knowledge of academic publishing.

Document Delivery available for Undergraduates

April 11th, 2008 by Jacky Cribb

During Semester 1 2008, the Library will be offering document delivery to Undergraduate students, as part of a trial service.

Undergraduate students will be able to request up to a maximum of 15 items per semester through the document delivery service. This may include requests for books or articles that are related to your studies and which are not held at the University of Queensland Library. It may also include requests for journal articles held at Warehouse or at another UQ campus.

Supply time for these requests may vary depending on whether an item is supplied from the UQ collection, or from a non-UQ collection. Supply time for items requested from non-UQ collections will depend on factors such as the local processes of the supplying library and the time that an item will spend in transit from the supplying library to UQ.

Please note: before using this service you will need to go to the loans desk in your branch library and ask staff to enter a home library for you. Contact details are available at:
http://www.library.uq.edu.au/about/branches.html
