The EndNote Cite While You Write function (instant formatting) only works with Microsoft Word.

However EndNote can still be used with Open Office, Star Office and any other word processor that can save files in Rich Text Format (RTF).

In EndNote, click on Help on the menu bar to open the help screens. Find the section on Scanning and Formatting RTF Files.

Or go to the EndNote manual, which is installed on your computer along with your EndNote software, and read the chapter on Scanning and Formatting RTF Files.
