EndNote training sessions

Our EndNote training sessions are proving very popular this semester. We are all booked up for April but have some more sessions scheduled for May, June and July. These sessions will cover use of the latest version of EndNote (X2.0.1) and will be held in eZone 1 (Level 2) on the following days and times -

Wednesday May 13 - 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm
Friday May 29 - 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Wednesday June 10 - 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Monday June 22 - 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm
Monday July 6 - 9.00 am to 12.00 noon

In the first few weeks of the semester, the Biological Sciences Library will be holding training sessions to help with your study. These sessions will be held in eZone 2 (Level 2) of the Library and bookings are not required. The sessions are as follows -

Online tutorial on how to publish in scientific journals

Ever wanted to find out more about the process for publishing in scientific journals? The University of Colorado have developed a tutorial called: “Publish, not Perish - The Art and Craft of Publishing in Scientific Journals” which will answer many of your questions.

The tutorial is available at: http://www.publishnotperish.org/intro/

It covers such information as:
* the role of publishing in an academic career
* the essential steps of planning and writing a scholarly paper
* developing a personal publication plan
* comparing and contrasting the different publishing models currently in use
* the types of articles you can write
* the pros and cons of collaborative authoring; and
* the tools and resources a scholarly writer needs to have on hand.

RAPID Short Courses

The Biological Sciences Library is conducting a second round of RAPID Short Courses for staff and postgraduate students. These advanced courses are an hour long and have been designed to concentrate on specific topics or databases. A list of courses can be found here. All courses will be held in Training Room 2.

Note: Bookings are not required for these courses.

Researchers and Postgraduates Information Discovery (RAPID) Course

Our next RAPID course (Modules 2/3) will be held in Training Room 1, on Tuesday 1st May from 9am-12pm. These combined modules cover searching techniques, the Library Catalogue, and databases. Database content covers the basics of database selection and searching. Bookings are required and can be made via:

Researchers and Postgraduates Information Discovery (aka RAPID)

Next week, the library will kick off with the first series of RAPID classes for ‘07. There are 22 places available in each face to face module. All classes will be held in the Biological Sciences Library Building (Building 94), Training Room 1 (Level 2).

Dates and times:

Module 1: To be completed online via Blackboard (contact your Liaison Librarian if you experience any difficulties) - not a prerequisite for other modules.

Module 2: 9 - 12.00 Monday 22nd January

Module 3: 9 - 12.00 Tuesday 23rd January (Note: Module 2 is a Prerequisite)

Module 4: 9 - 10.30 Wednesday 24th January

Module 5: 10.30 - 12.00 Wednesday 24th January (Note: Module 3 is a Prerequisite)
