Endnote Express teaches users how to use Endnote software to manage their research bibliographies, work with databases to get bibliographic information, change styles and sort their resources, and work with Microsoft Word to control referencing in a paper or assignment. The class is specifically tailored for the needs of students, academics and researchers in the Business, Tourism and Economics areas.

This class runs from 2-4pm in the Ezone in Graduate Economics & Business Library, Level 2 Colin Clark Building, St Lucia Campus.

To support research and teaching in Australian universities the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has an Agreement with the Australian Vice Chancellors Committee (AVCC) to make available Confidentialised Unit Record Files (CURFs). The agreement began in January 1999 and there are currently 33 universities participating in the Agreement. Staff and students of the university are eligible to apply to access this data.

A CURF contains responses made by individuals or organisations to an ABS survey with all identifying information removed. That is, names and addresses are removed, along with any unusual combinations of responses that may lead to a person’s or organisation’s identity being derived.
Details of the survey data available from each CURF are listed in an accompanying Technical Paper. CURFs are the most detailed data available from the ABS and are thus subject to strict terms of use.

This database can be used to benchmark research impact by measuring published output and citation rates. Both researchers and research administrators will find the Indicators of interest. It allows to benchmark individual papers, subject categories or institutions against “international average” or an institution or a group of institutions. Also, it allows to place one’s performance within percentiles of publications in the same subject category. The information available in the ESI can be used in management reports, grant applications or CVs.

The ESI is updated every two months and is available from your desktop. (http://library.uq.edu.au/record=e1001810)

Thomson representatives (the publishers of ESI) will be at UQ on Thursday 15th May at 9.30 am to demonstrate Essential Science Indicators. The demonstration will be held in the Library conference room (Duhig building, level 1).
